Billy DeFrank Speakers Certification Training Saturday, October 16, 2004, 9 - 3 PM Lunch provided at the Billy DeFrank LGBT Community Center 938 The Alameda, San Jose (5126 www.defrank.org Tel (408) 293 - 3040 ext. 111 Erika Billy DeFrank Speakers provides
speakers for high school and college classes, as well as other
interested community groups, corporations and institutions. Our format
is simple ... our speakers answer any questions regarding who we are as
lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people.
We are looking for new members who would be available to speak in classrooms several times each semester and for other community venues as needed and requested throughout the year. You should be reasonably out ... meaning, it wouldn't be a disaster if word got out that you were doing this ... you should be comfortable answering questions about your life, and you MUST be able to stay cool when confronted with a hostile question. We especially encourage new members who are bilingual, bisexual, people of color, ex-military, transgender, or who have been the victim of a hate crime. Our training addresses how to create a safe learning environment in which students and other community members can discuss their interests and concerns. Please call Erika Escobedo at (408) 293 - 3040 ext 111 for more information regarding registering for the Billy DeFrank Speakers Certification Training. Please study all of the information provided on this website as background material for the upcoming training. New speaker certification training begins promptly at 9:00 am. Late arrivals cannot be certified. Lunch break between 12 - 1 PM .
